The nuclear choice for propulsion energy of the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier

Charles FRIBOURG, TECHNICATOME

In order to take benefit -at lowest cost- of similarity with reactor-type of the French SSN, the French aircraft-carrier Charles de Gaulle has been built with the same nuclear propulsion: here are the real stakes of designing and building a nuclear propulsion/energy system for the French aircraft-carrier. The different launches of this aircraft-carrier have given to the French Navy a way to evaluate and to appreciate its technological capabilities and performances. The nuclear energy/propulsion system is easy to use and safe, it's a way for the High Command of the ship not to get troubles when at sea and fulfil his basic mission, i.e, to provide an airborne fleet in miscellaneous and unforeseeable situations.
