Review of 50 years of innovation in calculations of the ship structures through the ATMA papers

The last 50 years have been marked, in shipbuilding, by the apparition of the computer as tool for calculations and design. Its development and the very fast progresses in information technologies have allowed the development and the application of methods not accessible before, opening the route to numerous innovations.

The paper aims to review the observed progresses in shipbuilding through the presented papers at ATMA since 1968 in the areas of the structural calculations, the use of new materials and the evolution of the design criteria.
