The book about the biologist Lucien Laubier which has been released in january 2025 is an opportunity to look back on the development of the submersibles and the discoveries they have made possible.
From 300 meters to 10 000 meters we learned a lot about the water column and the benthos. We dived on the underwater hydrothermal vents. We first brought up rocks and then biological species.
Robots have been built to gradually take the place of manned submarines then intelligent and autonomous AUV’s, today drones.
