CMA CGM MARCO POLO is today the largest container carrier on the oceans. She is nearly 400 m long and can load up to 16,020 TEUs. The ultra large containerships have both economic and environmental advantage over smaller units.

The building of CMA CGM MARCO POLO was a human and technological adventure. Only the greatest Asian shipyards have the capacity of producing such vessels. Feedback from first voyages of CMA CGM MARCO POLO shows exceptional business performances, perfectly suited for the Asia- Northern Europe trade. Her dimensions are estimated to be close to the limits of operability in most ports in width, length and draft.

CMA CGM MARCO POLO is fitted with the most innovative technologies in order to optimize her technical and environmental performances: electronic engine with exhaust gas bypass, turbochargers optimized for main engine low load, NOx emissions according to IMO Tier II, water ballast treatment plant, optimized hull form, twisted leading edge rudder, pre swirl stator, Fast Oil Recovery System. This leads to an EEDI of 10.37, about 30% lower than current limit, already within the target set by IMO for ships built in 2025.
