Manufacturing of NES 24 surface effect ship structure

CDK COMPOSITES yard has used glass-epoxy PVC core sandwich composite to manufacture NES 24 structure. The original building method allows the manufacturing of this 24.97 m long and 6.85 m wide non conventional craft in a small shop without permanent heavy lifting facilities.

Specificity of the composite material has been taken into account since dimensioning and design. It led to apply a quality procedure to the yard with the help of IFREMER as far as material trials are concerned. This detailed following up allows to keep a tight mass specification while providing interesting indications on this kind of sandwich composite and its actual mechanical performance.
