The new high performance LHCH towing tank

A new towing tank has just been built in the new campus of the Liège University at Sart Tilman. This tank, which is alone in Belgium, has been completely designed by university departments. Its length has been limited at 100 meters taking into account the land area. This length limitation has deeply influenced the whole design. Of course, to allow trials at important scales, the tank is 6 meter breadth with a small length/breadth ratio.

In these conditions and in order to reach a maximum constant carriage speed of 8,4 m/s on a distance of 30 m, it has been necessary to use particular items and to optimise the carriage design. This high performance carriage is fully automatized and equipped with high precision instruments using the last technological progresses in this field.
