Safety aspects in the development of the VEGA oil field

This paper deals with the discussion of the major safety aspects which have arisen in the development of the Vega Oil field, Offshore South Sicily.

Due to the importance of the project, the Vega field being the second one in the Mediterranean Sea, and to the fact that the project has been awarded to different contractors, the Company deemed it advisable to involve one or more Classification Societies in order to review the whole project and finalize the Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities for compliance with the highest possible safety standards.

The most effective aspects of these activities are discussed also with respect to the Italian legal Requirements.
