A wing-sail to win the America's cup

The 33rd America's Cup was marked by the victory of a rigid wing maxi trimaran, the american BMW Oracle team’s trimaran. HDS was in the design team and participated in the design of the rigid wingsail.

We propose here to present our design approach and finite element modelling for this ambitious project. From the choice to design the wing to the assembly on the maxi trimaran, we present the various steps of calculation / design and optimization of the overall system mass.
