Increases in seismic research productivity requires wider survey paths and longer streamers. The :importance of the lifting surfaces or paravanes which spread the antennas is described. The different constraints which have to be integrated in the design of paravanes are discussed based on an example where we show how different foil sections are required depending on the. number of paravanes. Results are presented for two different designs for which some of the design aspects are covered by patents.
