After a general outline presentation of a high speed ship design approach showing its main stages, i.e. nava] architecture, scantling definition and verification and approval obtained by application of the rules and regulations, this approach will be illustrated through the development of the CORSAIRE 11000 project.

The phases of naval architecture and use of structural analysis as an aid to design will be more precisely described, laying stress on the unconventional ship specific features which have to be properly integrated.

An analysis of the approach described above will allow further improvements.
