For now about ten years, there bas been a dramatic increasing on board ships of equipment using power electronics. These equipment generate more and more harmonic currents creating disturbances which could lead to malfunction of sensible equipment. If those disturbances were known before ship construction it could be possible to optimise selection and design of these sensible equipment.

A study is currently made in order to predict the amount of harmonic distortions. It is based on modification of disturbing equipment and simulation of currents propagation on electrical network, according two different methods of calculations, one "determinist" approach and one "stochastic" approach, depending on operation of disturbing loads. A comparison between theoretical results and campaign of measures will allow to make a conclusion about validity of these approaches.
