A contribution to the methodology of optimisation through fitting and equipping of work areas and crew living quarters, onboard commercial fishing vessels

G. LE BOUAR, Laboratoire de recherche Sécurité et Conditions de Travail,Institut Universitaire de Technologie de Lorient, Université de Bretagne Occidentale

This work is geared towards the development and adjustment of a tool destined to aid in the integration of work, safety and living conditions at the conception stage of f1Shing vessel design.

From observation of current crew work practices and an examination of the causes of onboard accidents we have proceeded to an analysis of safety levels. The analysis of the collected data has largely contributed to the knowledge base of this study. Consideration of the formulation possibilities which could lead to the integration of a data processing development in fishing vessel conception has permitted the option of a modular development based on object oriented software.

An initial version of the software, targeting the definition of volumetric entities of the vessel, the lay-out of volumetric entities as well as the circulation between them has been set up. It is characterised by an original software architecture of the advanced CAD type which attemps to conciliate in a pluridisciplinary area some of the problems posed by the integration of artificial intelligence with classical CAD.
