INSEAN standardization contribution for seakeeping model testing and data analysis

The paper makes a critical review of the experimental research work carried out within the 17th ITTC cooperative program for sea keeping comparative tests on a S175 container standard ship model. Its aim is to answer two requirements particularly urged for seakeeping model tests in rcct1lngular basins: to make uniform the several experimental procedures and to assess, at least in comparative terms, the reliability degree of model results affecting ship predictions.

After the main experimental troubles, tank limitedness implications and data analysis techniques have been discussed, INSEAN results are compared with ITTC cooperative program ones and, as to regular wave signals, an original analysis technique is proposed.
